Company History

We originated here in Oakfield, N.Y. and 40 years later we are still here. We are proud of our factory in it's country setting 12 miles north of the Batavia Downs track in Batavia, N.Y.

Joyce began there sewing for the local horsemen. Things really began growing when the U.S.T.A. made a new ruling that the drivers had to wear white pants and their colors regardless of the weather. Before this, the drivers wore heavy, like colored rubber goods with a number over their shoulders to identify who they were. This ruling really made a big change.

Fair weather racing was fine, but those muddy nights did present a problem - so all the drivers were looking to Joyce - make us something to keep mud and water out, yet be white. In those days there were no vinyl coated material available. Being a country girl, Joyce came with white oil cloth. This worked until every store within miles sold out. By then the weather was turning colder. Drivers started demanding a product, so Joyce started using naugahide material. They were bulky, but they were white and fit the needs of the drivers. Then the drivers wanted jackets in their colors, so news traveled fast. Other tracks started wanting them also. Now Joyce's colors were on the market. Now Joyce needed help, so she hired one girl, then on to more help. A new building was built complete with new, larger, sewing machines. Large cutting tables were built and racks for many rolls of material.

Then, Joyce began doing something no one else at the time did, add a color stripe down the leg of the pants. So the original color stripe was introduced and now demanded by all.
